Markets open every day

Every morning, it's a multitude of communes of Charente-Maritime which come alive as stalls are set up and customers stroll around looking for their lunch menu. Meet the local producers and fill your basket to the brim with fresh produce and specialities from the Charente.

There are around ten food markets open all year round, usually from 8am to 1pm:

  • Châtelaillon-Plage. In Rue du Marché, you'll find a wide variety of foodstuffs, from the sea to the fields!
  • Sainte-Marie-de-Ré, place d'Antioche and place des tilleuls (except Mondays in low season). This colourful market smells of the region and has a merry-go-round for children's entertainment in each square.
  • Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, with its covered market in the town centre, from 8am to 1.30pm.
  • Fouras-les-Bains, rue de la Halle, 8am to 12.30pm. You'll find a covered market stocked with fish when you come to Fouras-les-Bains. visit to Fouras.
  • Saintes. From flowers to organic produce and delicious home-cooked meals, there are several markets taking place in the town at Place du 11-Novembre, Place Saint-Pierre, Avenue Gambetta and Place des Câtives.
  • Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, from 8am to 2pm in the town centre.
  • La Rochelle, at the Halles du XIXe. Vegetables, ready-made meals, groceries, cheeses, bread, cold meats... You'll find what you're looking for to satisfy your taste buds.
  • Saint-Pierre d'Oléron. Head to La Cotinière and its fishing port, where the fish market takes place every day at 4pm, offering seafood, fish, oysters and various shellfish.
  • La Tremblade, Place Gambetta. On Saturdays, the daily market is replaced by a fairground market.
  • Royan, 7am-1pm (except Mondays in winter), right in the centre.

Some seasonal markets in Charente-Maritime

Numerous seasonal craft markets are also held, to the delight of visitors. A La Palmyre, Between Easter and mid-September, a market is held on Wednesday and Sunday mornings. From 1er June to 30 September, every morning in Ronce-les-Bains (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday mornings in winter)
