A Violin in the Sand
More than a an internationally renowned music festival, A Violin in the Sand is a brand new concept. It's the place to be for lovers of classical music and lyrical since 1987. On the programme for each edition, 3 major concerts, appointments bold who are bringing out the classic Royan beach. Evenings marked by the excellence of the performers of virtuoso pieces heterogeneous. A programme enigmatic traditionally unveiled a few days before the first evening. Mozart can be heard alongside Verdi, jazz, variety and medleys (film music, Beatles...).
It's a meeting place for a sometimes neophyte audience with soloists and the biggest classic stars. Singers, instrumentalists and dancers share the stage, accompanied by 75 to 80 musicians, most of them from the Paris Opera. The ensemble is directed by Jérôme Pillement, who invites the audience to live each moment to the full and presents the works with historical anecdotes. Moments of complete fusion shared each evening by between 30,000 and 50,000 mesmerised spectators from all over the world. After a three-year enforced absence due to the pandemic, the notes of music will once again resound on the beach and in the surrounding area.
A Violin in the City
Festival off, off the beach, A Violin in the City was born in 2012, 25 years after its famous predecessor A Violin on the Beach. Since then, the festival has spread throughout the Royannais region, much to the delight of spectators. The programme includes a dozen intimate events and unusual concerts in unusual places or steeped in history. The result will be memorable musical encounters with renowned artists. For the organisers, everything is possible And each edition surpasses the last ! Which secret château will be the setting for a forthcoming concert? Will the pianos return to the cliffs of Talmont-sur-Gironde for a recital? Will the star dancers return to the golf course at Saint-Palais-sur-Mer in the heart of the Coubre pine forest? Will gospel resonate on the Gallo-Roman site of Le Fâ in Barzan? After the Garden Tennis courts, what will the stage be for 4 Hands? Visit programme varies each year and the the 2022 edition which will unveiled in June will be breathtaking and full of surprises.
Practical information
The shows are mainly free of charge and postponed until the following day in case of bad weather.
- La 35th edition d’A Violin in the Sand will be held on 23, 26 and 29 July 2022, on the beach at Royan. The concerts start at 10 pm but it is advisable to arrive before 6pm. The organisers will be providing grandstands for spectators wishing to set up at the last minute. Numbered seat reservations (€30) from 3 May.
- A Violin in the City will take place from 20 to 30 July 2022 in and around Royan, a seaside resort classified as a «Town of Art and History».
