A multitude of routes for horse riding in Royan
Along the coast or in the forest, there are plenty of trails where you can get out on horseback and enjoy a breath of fresh air with your family or friends. Walk, trot or gallop your way along the dozen or so kilometres of beaches or through the lush green landscapes of the region. The Coubre national forest, covering almost 8,000 hectares, is one of the ideal places for horse riding. This large pine forest has 30 km of trails reserved for riders. Not far away, the Combots d'Ansoine forest, a nature reserve, also offers 20 km of signposted trails for horse riding. The Route des Cardinaux has over 80km of trails.
Please note that you cannot drive a team of horses on beaches and paths reserved for horse riders.
Horse riding with Royan's riding schools
In Royan, you'll find a number of riding stables where you can get on a horse and go for a ride. These horse-riding clubs offer themed rides, various excursions and courses for beginners, as well as introductory courses for those discovering the equestrian world for the first time. The area around Royan is carefully signposted so that everyone can ride independently. The paths to be followed are marked with horizontal lines in orange, a colour specific to equestrianism, with indications for turning left or right and prohibited areas marked with crosses. The starting point of each signposted trail is marked by a green sign with a foot in a stirrup.
