A charming seaside resort with a village feel, Vaux-sur-Mer invites residents and visitors alike to enjoy a stroll along its coastal path or in the heart of its lively town centre.
The first path leads to the church of Saint-Étienne, of which all that remains today is the chevet arch, adorned with modillions and sculpted capitals. A Benedictine abbey founded in 1075 and listed as a Historic Monument since 1913, it is surrounded by an ancient cemetery containing some remarkable cenotaphs.
The Sentier des Douaniers follows the coastline through the four conches of Vaux-sur-Mer. Sheltered by the Bois des Fées and its distinctive holm oak trees, halfway along the path you come to the Conche du Conseil, which is peaceful despite its proximity to the town. Once out of the undergrowth, the path leads to the twin conches of Saint-Sordelin and Gilet, a haven of tranquillity by the ocean.
