The carrelets of the Atlantic fishermen<\/h2>\n

Along the coastline are small huts linked to the mainland by a wooden pontoon. These are squares<\/a>, named after the square net used to fish from these emblematic buildings in Charente-Maritime<\/strong>. White, yellow, green, earthy... they contrast with the blue of the sky and the blue of the sea towards which they advance like stilt-walkers. At dusk, their multiple stilts topped by a gangway and their taut net hung from a winch above the void stand out against the horizon and seem to criss-cross the space. You can't miss them - there are so many along the coast! more than 400<\/strong> and they are now part of the landscape and local curiosities. Braided nylon nets are used to catch prawns and other fish close to the shore. The \"carrelet\" also refers to this traditional method, which is more accessible than deep-sea fishing.<\/p>\n
